Restricted Areas

Real Time uses no predetermined routes or waypoints to predict the least Time Track. The program roams freely on the waters of a digital world unless constrained  by land or user defined limitations to navigation.  The restricted area is the most frequently used tool to restrict navigation in certain areas.  A typical use for a restricted are would be modifying a North Atlantic passage to avoid navigation in  areas where icebergs have been reported.

Setting a Restricted Area

1. Select the Navigation link and click the "Restricted Areas" button.

2. To create a new restricted area click the "New Restricted Area" button. To edit an existing restricted area click the "Edit" button.

3. When entering the boundaries of a restricted area it is best to imagine a rectangular section of the earths surface from a birds eye view of the planet. The left boundary of the rectangle is always longitude A and the top boundary is always Latitude A.  All values of latitude and longitude are in decimals of a degree and the quadrant is represented by the sign of the number (North and East are Positive).  In the illustration above the first restricted area is titled "Grand Banks - Canada". The left boundary (Long_A) of this area is -52 degrees or 52 degrees west. The right boundary (Long_B) is -47 degrees or 47 degrees West.

4. Once all boundaries are entered the Enabled value must be set to TRUE for the restricted area to be activated.

5. Click the "Update" button to save all changes.

Hint:  Use the delete button sparingly. If you no longer wish to use a restricted area for a particular voyage set the enabled value to FALSE
