Latitude Limits

YOU SHOULD NOT NORMALLY NEED TO ADJUST THESE SETTINGS

The simulator uses no stored routes or waypoints to predict the Least Time Track. The program roams freely on the waters of a digital world unless constrained  by land or user defined limitations to navigation.  When a user establishes a new account a number of default latitude limits are automatically included. These default limits approximate generally to those defined in insurance hull clauses for merchant vessels.  latitude limits are illustrated on graphics as dotted blue lines.

Although no adjustment will be necessary for most users it is sometimes necessary to adjust limits to complete a particular voyage. For example the adjacent illustration shows a latitude limit just North of Belle Isle Strait. If you were planning a passage to the Hamilton inlet in the Labrador Sea you would need to adjust this latitude limit to at least 56 degrees North to complete the passage.

Adjusting Latitude Limits

1. Select the Navigation page and click the button titled "Limiting Latitudes".

2. Locate the latitude limit you wish to adjust. Press the Edit button and make adjustments to either the latitude or longitude sector.  If you wish to deactivate a latitude limit temporarily it is best to adjust the latitude to a higher value, rather than delete it. For example moving a latitude limit from 50 North to 75 North will effectively remove it from influencing most ocean passages. Longitude A must always be to the "left" of Longitude B as observed from a birds eye view.

3. When adjustments have been made, press the update button.

4. The New Limit button may be used to add additional Latitude Limits.
